After a long tiring flight from overseas to Australia, you’ll have a lot of things running through your mind after taking the first step off your feet in the Australian International Airport. You will be 50% excited and 50% nervous at the same time. Here are some of the things I’ve mentioned in the paragraph below that you need to do after arriving in Australia.
At first, all you have to do is reach to your destination through Uber, getting somebody to pick you up, by bus or train, etc. Then start stacking up your things and make a plan on what to do next. It looks very difficult at first but later you’ll be used to it. Discover the place you are living in and get to know about the routes from the Google Maps. Then after that open your bank account so that you can keep all your money safe. The most important thing for you is to make the TFN (Tax File Number) from https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/tax-file-number/. After you do all this, start getting to know the routes of the train and know about each of the stations so that you can travel easily. You also need to get a sim card or a mobile phone in plans or full cash payment which is easily available at www.vodafone.com.au, www.optus.com.au, www.telestra.com.au, etc. Then you can visit your college/ university so that you can have a clear idea about your college fees, course structure, venue, etc. Meeting new people and talking to them will be a great advantage. You don’t have to worry at all as all the facilities and services are easily available for you. For instance: OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) for checkups, Debit cards to withdraw the cash, Opal cards for train and bus travels, etc. You can also get your rewards card from stores like Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, etc. for discounts and offers on your daily purchase from www.coles.com.au, www.woolworths.com.au, www.aldi.com.au. Piggy bank is a must in order to save your extra money. Please contact people who are close to you, if not please ask some of your friends to recommend the known ones so that you can get the clear idea to make yourself used to the new place. All you have to do is stay positive, be patience and don’t worry at all. Another important thing is the rent, if you’re staying alone then it will be lot more difficult for you to manage the rent payments. So, please visit www.gumtree.com.au, Facebook groups and pages for shared accommodations. There are lots of people searching for the shared accommodations so that life will be easier and rent and groceries be divided among each other. You can also go through these websites for the work purposes. Some other websites available are www.seekjobs.com.au, www.foundjobs.com.au. International students can only work 20 hours a week on Tax so Tax file number is essential in this matter. You can work as much as you can in cash payments. People are lot more friendly and also they are really helpful to each other so please don’t hesitate to ask them for a help if you’re in need. If you are in trouble, Police is available 24/7 in this matter, emergency services are also available 24/7. If you need books to read there are lots of libraries in each suburbs and also in the universities/ colleges and also through student VIP, Jekkle, etc. There are lots of beautiful places in Australia so that you can spend a good quality time. Also the foods are lot more cheaper compared to other countries. Groceries are available from the nearest stores. You can even manage your daily lifestyle with 50$ AUD for travelling, groceries, etc. for a week. You can also use transportation services such as Bus, Taxi, Uber, Ola, etc. to travel around places.
At last, all I want to say is you have to be ready to face whatever comes on the way as you are all on your own to manage your schedules as everyone will be busy on their own tasks. Telephone services are also available on each suburb in case of an emergency. If you need to buy a car or a motorcycle, they are cheap and easily available as well. If you spend 2000$ AUD, then you can get it within a short period of time. If you own a car or a motorcycle it will be very easy for you to travel around places. And yes, please don’t forget to use Google Maps as you might get confuse about the routes. There are cheap fuel stations which are linked with the stores like Shell, Caltex, etc. The driving classes are also available for various instructors who will easily help you to get through your driving skills. It will also be very easy to know about the rules and regulations of the roads.
These are the things you need to follow step by step so that you can have a good lifestyle in Australia.
